## India’s First indigenous Operating System
  • India’s first indigenously developed operating system is Bharat Operating System Solutions (BOSS).
  • It was developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Chennai, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.
  • This OS was first released in 2007.
  • It is a Linux-based operating system, customized for Indian users.
    ## India’s First indigenous Navigation GPS
    • India’s first indigenously developed navigational GPS is NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation).
    • It was developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
    • It was launched in 2018.
    • It provides accurate positioning, navigation, and timing services for transportation, disaster management, fisheries, defense, and personal navigation.

    • It is MapmyIndia (an App built using Indian data + NavIC integration).
    • MapmyIndia is a mobile navigation app.
    ## India’s first indigenous Supercomputer
    • India’s first indigenous supercomputer is PARAM 8000.
    • It was developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune, in 1991.
    • The Reason for the Development of this supercomputer is that in the late 1980s, India tried to purchase a Cray supercomputer from the United States, but the export was denied due to concerns about its potential use in nuclear research. This denial motivated India to develop its own indigenous supercomputer.
    • This Supercomputer is based on the parallel processing concept and uses Inmos transputers (British processors) interconnected to achieve high computing power.
    • This Supercomputer achieved a speed of 1 Gigaflop (1 billion calculations per second), which was a huge milestone at that time.
    • The successor models of this supercomputer include PARAM 8600, PARAM 10000, PARAM Padma, and PARAM Siddhi-AI. Today, PARAM Siddhi-AI (developed in 2020) is one of the fastest supercomputers in India, ranking among the top in the world.
